None. Honestly I have no idea what to do. I go second in a ten team snake draft. I know I'll get one
of Maurice Jones-Drew or Matt Forte, and from there I know nothing. Not Michael Turner or Adrian
Peterson you ask? Well, I have my doubts about them.
Every year I like to do some rankings and figure out which players are going to be available for my
second, third, fourth and fifth picks, and I use that knowledge to help with my early picks. If I
figure there will be solid RB options in the fourth and fifth rounds I'll grab WRs in the second and
third rounds. This year though, while going through my ranking lists, I find they are so far apart
from the popular ones I see out there, I could get three of my top 15 players! But which three?
This last question leaves me wondering who will be available when my picks come around, all of them.
In the past I've had pretty good ideas as to who my first three or even five picks would be, but
this year I don't. I don't even have a clue as to what positions will have players I like still
available. In my history of drafting I've often taken players based on who I thought would be
available later on, but I cannot do that this year. This year I need to be reactive, not proactive.
So what can I do to prepare for my draft? I need to get my cheat sheets in perfect working order
and have them extremely organized, maybe color coded by position. I will be spending all of my
preparation time on my cheat sheet, and I'll allocate no more time to devising a strategy.
On draft day I'll need to be on my toes. I'll have my cheat sheet fully worked out and organized,
and I'll need to be watching trends and ready to devise a strategy if I see something particular
happening, or keep with no strategy at all. Of course, there will be an underlying strategy,
take the best available without taking a backup until my starters are filled (excluding defense
and kickers of course).
I'm not a big fan of having so much reliant on draft day, as there are so many factors that can
alter your decision making abilities. The heat of the moment, the ticking clock, your friends'
bantering and if you're 21 or above there may be some adult beverages involved. But I am
confident that whatever strategy I could come up with now would be null and void 10 picks into
the draft. This is what I need to prepare for.
